It’s safe to say that no sector of our federal government places a higher priority on defending against cyber attacks than the Department of Defense and our national security and intelligence agencies. And for good reason, given the level of cyber threats and activity by adversaries and our federal government’s commitment to rigorously pursue a Zero Trust security strategy.

That’s why it is a significant accomplishment to earn approval from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for the release of a Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) for any technology solution. STIG validation means that DISA has conducted a review and approved the solution’s defined configuration and security standards. Federal agencies and users that implement that IT solution and follow the STIG guidelines are complying with DoD security policies. They can feel confident they’re using best practices to protect their networks, data and users from cyber threats.

DISA approves Alluvio NetProfiler STIG

DISA recently announced that it has reviewed and approved the STIG for Riverbed’s Alluvio NetProfiler, which provides network performance monitoring, network flow analytics and centralized reporting tools. NetProfiler affords agencies continuous visibility into the performance of endpoints, applications and users on the network, including providing alerts on any significant changes in network behavior. Those capabilities are key for maintaining strong IT security controls and enhancing user performance and user experience.

DoD and other federal users with CAC cards with appropriate security certificates can access the Riverbed NetProfiler STIG on the DoD Cyber Exchange website.

A critical role in compliance and security

In today’s environment, the roles of DISA and the DoD Cyber Exchange are more critical than ever. Part of DISA’s mission is to make the DoD network secure and resilient against cybersecurity threats, focusing on infrastructure and network security, and strengthening cybersecurity measures, including boundary defense and endpoint security. Its ultimate goal is achieving information dominance by providing an enterprise infrastructure so effective that its users have a significant advantage in combat.

The DoD Cyber Exchange provides one-stop access to cyber information, policy, guidance and training for cyber professionals throughout the DoD. Some portions of the Cyber Exchange website are also available to other Federal Government employees and to the general public. By making some of these resources available to the public, the Cyber Exchange helps users comply with rules, regulations, best practices and federal laws.

Since 2009, NetProfiler has a consistent track record of successful performance across the DoD and other the federal agencies. Now this latest milestone—STIG certification—provides additional assurance that NetProfiler can be implemented easily and securely and used with confidence to solve network visibility challenges.
